Susan VanDrie, age 102 of McBain, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 at Quiet Creek AFC in Falmouth. She was born on May 11, 1924 to Charley and Jennie (Comdure) Boven in Clam Union Twp. She married John VanDrie on December 3, 1948 at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church. They were married 49 years before John passed away on September 10, 1997.
Susan was brought up in Falmouth on a farm on 7 mile road. She taught school in Lucas, Ellsworth and Highland. She loved flowers and sewing, living in Florida in the winter time, and making many friends with people over the Eastern and Central part of the U.S. and Canada. Susan volunteered at Friends Mission and loved people. She also loved traveling to many countries with her husband. She loved the trip to Jerusalem and walked the streets where Jesus walked.
Susan taught Sunday School, Catechism, and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She, with her husband, owned VanDrie Furniture for 32 years. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church for over 75 years.
She is survived by her children Irene VanDrie (special friend Doug Metcalf) of Lake City, Kevin (Sharon) VanDrie of Traverse City and Celeste (Chris) Armstrong of Rockford, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandsons, sister in-law Nancy Boven of Rockford.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Margaret (Harvey) Kortman, Merlin Boven, Alvin Boven and many in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Burkholder-Nielsen Funeral Home in McBain with Rev. Ken Koning officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 on Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will take place in Mount View cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the McBain City Building following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice.
