Obituary

Phyllis Jean Vanderhoef, age 79 of Marion passed away at her daughter’s home in Marion,

on March 7, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior. Phyllis was born on February 21,1947 in Cadillac Michigan to David & Laura Jean (Cooper) Porter. She married LD Vanderhoef on October 17,1981 and

he preceded her in death on October 30, 2008.

Phyllis had worked as a CNA, Nursing Homes, Security Guard at Evart Products, Car Factory in Harbor Spring. She was a member of the Rose Lake Free Methodist Church, LeRoy, MI for 19 years. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years, she loved singing at the church and with the Highlandaires, she enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking & baking. Her favorite time was with the grandkids and great grandkids.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Tammy (Nevin) Stoner, Kenneth Schemke, Anna (Scott) Schemke-Bell, Janice (Glen) Schemke, Tim Peck, Stepchildren: Leslie Vanderhoef and Lenard (Terri) Vanderhoef. 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Sibling: Sisters Mary Smith, Katie (Greg) Dean & Heidi (Scott) Roberts. Sister In-Law Betty Porter. Brothers Bill (Jane) Porter & Ralph (Gerri) Laycock, Jr. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepfather Ralph Laycock, granddaughter Sheena Stoner and great grandson Payton Sikkema. Brother David Porter, Jr, Brother In-Law Smitty Smith. Sisters: Laura, Alice and Doris, Sister In-Law Charlott Laycock.

Celebration of Life will be at the Rose Lake Free Church 13036 17 Mile Rd, LeRoy MI (Corner of 130th Ave and 17 Mile Rd.) on Saturday March 28, 2026, at 10:00 am with Rev. David Scott officiating.

Burial will take place with her husband in Sherman Township Cemetery following the Celebration of Life.

Luncheon will then follow at the Rose Lake Township Hall at 15963 16 Mile Rd, LeRoy MI.

In Liew of flowers, donations can be made to the Rose Lake Free Methodist Church, Attn: Vicky Schaefer Mailed to 16879 140th Ave, LeRoy MI 49655. There will also be a basket at the Church to place donations.

Arrangements are being handled by Burkholder-Nielsen Funeral Home in McBain.
