Margaret Sara Hopkins, age 92 of Marion, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was born on July 31, 1933, to Wallace and Margaret (Smith) Cavanaugh in Marion. On November 27, 1950, she married William Hopkins and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1994.

Margaret was a farmer’s wife and do it all kind of person. She enjoyed gardening and baking, playing cards, marbles and pool. She was attending the Chapel Hill Wesleyan Church in Marion.

She is survived by her children Marsha (Bill) Irwin of Lake City, Gloria (David) Phillips of Marion, Debra (Mark) Hammar of Marion, Kathy (Brian) Riedel of Marion and Daniel (Lorie) Hopkins of Marion, twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her infant son Douglas Hopkins, son Ronald Hopkins and five siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, April 12 at the Burkholder-Nielsen Funeral Home in McBain with Nate Nelson presiding. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service. Burial will take place in the Greenwood cemetery in Marion following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Venue in Marion. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be directed to the family.
