Harlan David Reyers, age 91 of Spring Lake/ McBain, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Autumnwood of McBain. Harlan was born on October 22, 1934 in Grand Rapids to Henry and Evelyn Reyers. He married Sharon Herweyer on September 8, 1984 in Grand Haven, MI.

Harlan graduated from Creston high school in 1953 and graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College before moving on to Worsham College of Mortuary Science of Chicago in 1959. After graduating from mortuary school Harlan was a director at Van Strien- Alman Funeral Home in Grand Rapids for many years and served many of those years as manager. Harlan also served in the US Army as a combat medic. In 1959 he founded what was known as The Reyers North Valley Funeral Chapel located at Three mile and Fuller Ave. N.E. in 1985. Harlan sold the funeral home to Service Corporation International.

Harlan was the developer and owner of Chinook Pier waterfront development on Grand Havens harbor front in 1985, which was sold in 1987 to Kenneth D. Harestad. He was also the founder and owner of the Reyers Company Inc. and of Spring Lake Graphics in Spring Lake. He was a member of Charles A. Conklin post # 28 American Legion in Grand Haven.

Harlan is survived by his wife Sharon Reyers of Spring Lake/McBain, daughter Ruthanne (Douglas) Clark of Kentwood, grandchildren Allison, Austin, and Brieanne Clark, as well as many great-grandchildren, brothers Lew (Sue) Reyers of Grand Rapids, and Dan (Donna) Reyers of Cleveland, OH, sister in-law Karen Jenema of McBain, and brother in-law Darrel (Barb) Herweyer of Rockford.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Reyers, brother Al Reyers and sister-in-law Glenna Reyers.

Per Harlan’s wishes, no public services will be held. He will be interred in Fairplains cemetery in Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan. The Burkholder-Nielsen Funeral Home in McBain is serving the family.
