Obituary

George Dillon Sprague, age 89 of Lake City, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026; he had been under Hospice care. He was born on October 16, 1936 in Silver Creek Township, Cass County to Paul and Thelma (Dillon) Sprague. George married Mary E. Whinnery on June 20, 1959 at the Sullivan Community Church in Muskegon County. They recently celebrated their 67 years of marriage.

George grew up on a farm in Cass County and graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1955. He attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, graduating from there in 1960. He spent his life ministering to small country churches, and completed 28 years of pastoring at Jennings Community Church. George also worked as a carpenter, from building houses, to doing custom cabinetry. He enjoyed photography, especially photographing rural scenery.

George is survived by his wife Mary, his three children Micheal (Mary Ann) Sprague, Steven (Samantha) Sprague, Sharon (James) Siegle, six grandchildren, George Sprague, Aleksander Sprague, Beth (Pat) Murphy, Crystal (Tabbitha) Sprague, James Siegle, and Thomas Siegle, ten great-grandchildren, nephew Wm. Ronald (Patty) Lewis, a niece Yvonne (William) Colin and several grand-nephews and nieces.

George was preceded in death by his parents, older half-brother H. Wm. Lewis, younger brother David Sprague and a niece Cindy Fox.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Jennings Community Church with Pastor Ron Sischo officiating. There will be a time of visiting and fellowship from 10:00 AM until start of services. A luncheon will be provided at the church after the service. Burial will take place in Oak Grove cemetery following the service.
