Obituary

Arleta Jean Vanderhoef age 91 of Marion passed away at her daughter's home in Cadillac on July 28, 2024. Arleta was born on October 7, 1932 in Athens, Michigan to Yelta and Emily (Weeks) Bussema. She married Richard Edward Vanderhoef on August 18, 1951 in Osceola County and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2020.

Arleta had worked at Nartron in Reed City and Riverside Electric in Marion. She was a member of the Chapel Hill Wesleyan Church and church was an important part of her life. She was active in all of the church functions. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and cooking (her pies were awesome).

She is survived by her children; Russel Lee (Eunice) Vanderhoef of LeRoy, Ronald (Irene) Vanderhoef of Sterling Heights, Stanley (Becky) Vanderhoef of Marion, Robert Wayne Vanderhoef of Marion, and Sandra Kay (Raymond) Rickets of Cadillac, 34 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, sibling; Shirley Smith of Sun City, Arizona, and Carlene (Richard) Atwell of Roswell, N.M., in-laws; Bernard (Delores) Vanderhoef of Evart, Laura Marie Kitson of Marion, and Lynda Platz of Cadillac.

Preceded in death parents; Earl and Emily Heaton, 3 children; Milton Vanderhoef, Beverly Jean Vanderhoef, and Lester Allen Vanderhoef, grandchildren; Donna Jean Vanderhoef, Terry Lynn Vanderhoef, Luke Vanderhoef, and Keri Duddles, great great-grandson; Wyatt Heath, sister; Celia (Richard) Ellis, in-laws; R.J. Smith, Ruby (Floyd) Laycock, Charles Orby, Delores Vanderhoef, Paul Vanderhoef, Milton Vanderhoef Jr., James Vanderhoef, and LD Vanderhoef.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Life House Church at 1120 West Division, Cadillac, Michigan, with visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain and one hour prior to services at the church. on Rev. Steve Boven will officiate. Burial will take place next to her husband in Maple Valley Cemetery in Osceola Township. A luncheon will follow the burial at the church.
